So when and where is The Gathering II going to take place? |

JIM TUCKER - 05/24/99 21:05:21 | Comments: That was quite a weekend. I am exhausted. Thanks to everyone. It filled some holes in my memory but mostly what it did was remind me of the sense of family that we had for that short period of time back in another life.It changed all of us forever. Jim |

John - 05/10/99 02:09:31 | Comments: Terry, why? You gonna sing and dance and save the hotel for the general? (And what about Raiders of the Lost Ark and The Quiet Man?) |
terry - 05/10/99 01:54:11 | Comments: Anybody else ever see HOLIDAY INN with Bing Crosby? One of my all-time favorites. (that and MAD MAX,BEYOND THUNDERDOME) |
Rick - 05/08/99 14:11:07 | Comments: Guys ... FYI, I called the San Geronimo Lodge this past Wednsday night to extend my stay and it had snowed out there that day. Jungle fatigues might not be appropriate. Pat did say it should be warming up shortly. |
Haisley - 05/01/99 23:40:45 | Comments: The new pictures really brought back memories. It was great to see the picture of Mac and Smitty. Sure wish we could locate McConnel & Frank! I have made some phone calls but have not had any luck. I don't have the foggiest idea how to get in touch wit Alex McConnel, he was from back east somewhere. If anyone knows how to locate him I would really appreciate it. Call me or e-mail me if you have any ideas. |
Bob C. - 04/29/99 20:42:14 | Comments: Listen up boys. I talked to Mike today and he has made his reservations at San Geronimo. |
John - 04/29/99 01:44:31 | Comments: Jim! Good to hear from you! Somebody call Mike Kuhn and see if he remembers what platoon he lead. If he pleads the "5th" I'll be really confused (more than usual). B10 |
Gary - 04/28/99 21:50:24 | Comments: Welcome aboard Jim. About time we heard from someone different. Now if only we could get Mike Kuhn to drop a line on us. I got name tags for everyone. Expect Sherry and I will be at San Gerimo by check-in time (3:00 pm). Hope to see everyone soon the eafter. Makes me hungry just to think about it; and I don't even know what we might have for dinner. Just as long as it's not same-same water buffalo or C-Rats. aka Doc Stolp |
Jim Tucker ex LT 2nd platoon - 04/28/99 17:19:03 | Comments: I can certainly understand why all of you would want to be in the 2nd Platoon. But if all of you were, who in the hell did Mike and Bob lead.I am getting pumped waiting for Angel Fire.See you there. B26 |

Jerry Thompson - 04/26/99 03:01:37 | Comments: Hey Guys!! Well thought id surface and send in a sitrep. I was the first Commo Sgt for the Company. Some may remember me but some may not, its hard for me to remember some of the names Im seeing, but heck of a lot of them i do remember. Rick Andel took over my job from what ive read. I wish i could make the reunion, but found all of this by total accide t, and surprised I was!! Just happened on this site about a week ago after some searching. I will definetely try to make the 2nd one. Well everyone take care, stay in touch, and have a great time at the reunion. Bravo 4Alpha Out. |
Bob C. - 04/25/99 23:31:11 | Comments: Hi boys. Just got back from two weeks R&R and of course the first thing I do is check out The Gathering !!! Man....a lot has happened in 2 weeks ! it seems like a whole other platoon has logged on to make a sitrep! Guys are already talking about 'the ext reunion'....and we havn't even had the 1st one yet!! SHORT |
Rick - 04/24/99 16:07:16 | Comments: Joe S. ... I received E-mail from Jerry Thompson. I most definetly remember him as I took over his job as commo sgt. when he left country. In return, Roger Schibani took it over when I left. I do have a picture or two of Jerry. |
Santos - 04/24/99 09:01:32 | Comments: Well guys...gave it my best shot, tried to work the reunion into my schedule...but there are just too many ongoing projects right now. Need to know at least four months in advance, when the next reunion is scheduled, then I can work the projects around it Has anyone heard from Jerry Thompson yet? I received an e-mail message from him about a week ago...says he was our commo Sgt. (B Co.)...don't remember the name (the 'ole memory just aint what it use to be!)...I'd probably recognize him in a photo though. Does anybody remember him or have pics of him...need to jog the memory a bit. I directed him to our BB, but haven't seen anything from him posted yet. About pictures, I know I have a couple but I'm going to have to dig them out. Will have my son scan them as soon as I pull them out. Hope all goes well with everyone.... |
Dennis - 04/22/99 20:35:57 | Comments: Thanks, Darcy that's great. Doc Adams... send your pictures to dear old captain Noah , I mean John. He will send them back. He promises.( Did captain Noah air nation wide or was he a Phila. product only? in which case most of you don't know what the heck am talking about. well welcome to the club. I pretty much never know what I am talking about, at least that's what Donna keeps telling me) |
Haisley - 04/22/99 17:58:08 | Comments: Dennis, I will dig out that picture of Atwood along with a bunch of others I have and get them to you as soon as possible. Also I know Adams has a ton of pictures and possibly has a good one of Atwood. |
Haisley - 04/22/99 17:53:46 | Comments: John it sounds like your memory is having some problems too because that definately is a picture of the Supremes. |
Gary C Stolp - 04/22/99 03:50:42 | Comments: Guys, Somebody refresh this poor old memory - what's left of it that is. Is'nt the "Four Star Hotel" really the local barber shop? If not, someone tell me what it was, please (If it be safe to say, that is). Gary Stolp |
John - 04/22/99 02:17:26 | Comments: And speaking of photos, I don't think that really is the Supremes... |
Rick - 04/22/99 00:31:18 | Comments: Darcy ... I'm coming without a wife. She divorced me a couple of years back!! Speaking of photos, isn't the one in the "album" of "downtown Chu Lai" actually off of LZ Ann? |
Dennis - 04/21/99 01:06:29 | Comments: Hey Darcy, I would appreciate it if you would send your picture of Atwood to John for posting. He promises to return it and I need a copy before we get to the gathering. Thanks buddy. |
Haisley - 04/20/99 01:03:55 | Comments: What's the deal? I know you guys have got to have some more pictures to post on the web page. I think about half of the photos in the album were ones I sent in. I have quite a few more including one of Atwood but I would like to see some of the stuff y u guys are hanging on to. Also that picture at the front gate of Cummings with the M-79 wasn't Gator it was L-Z Ann. Looks like I am going to be able to make it to the Gathering but don't know if my wife is going to make it. Is anyone else besides me co ing without their wife? |
John - 04/20/99 00:35:28 | Comments: If you guys have any pictures you want me to post on the website please send them to me. I promise I will return them (except your's Dennis - the're mine now...) |
Gary C Stolp - 04/17/99 19:41:18 | Comments: Well, Guys and Gals. It's a done deal. Sherry has agreed to come to "The Gathering" with me. We have reservations to be at San Geronimo Lodge Friday and leave Monday. Hurray! I'm beside myself and can't wait to see you all. Somebody pinch me, I thin I'm in a dream. God is Good. God is Great. Can't hardly stand the wait. Thanks to all of you who thought this up and got this site going. Doc Stolp. |
Gary C Stolp - 04/16/99 03:48:36 | Comments: I'm glad to see Darcy reached you Cecil. Long time no see. I've got your picture and hope to get it posted in our gallery sometime soon along with some others. Hoping you also will have some to add. Glad to see that Mike Dunnagan and you are going to "The Gathering". Have you all thought of doing a memorial/devotion? Think that would be appropriate for the occasion. By the way it looks now like I might be able to go after all. Still trying to get Sherry, my better half to go too. I sure would like to know what everyone is planning to do while there. I'll be there primarily to see the guys of the 5/46th, but would like to take in a few other activities too. Mike it will be interesting who else you bring onto this site. I must apologize for my memory of you, but haven't had the advantage of someone else to keep memories fresh and fill in gaps. But then was hoping that we could do a lot of that at Taos. Must close for now. Must share the PC with my life mate. Love all you Guys. Gary C Stolp |

Mack Dunnagan - 04/14/99 22:34:33 | Comments: I was a medic in 3rd platoon, Co A, 5th/46th from Feb/Mar '68 till Nov '68. Cecil Adams and I are going to be there for the gathering. Cecil was a medic in co B. I'm in contact with several of the guys who were in my platoon. I'll tell them about it. Sounds exciting. Don't know if I know anyone on the list so far -- except for Gary S. I Don't know Gary personally. But, I feel like I do. Cecil has talked about you so much that his memories of you have become my memories of you. So, I know you, wheth r I do or not. Did that make sense? |
Cecil Adams - 04/14/99 21:04:38 | Comments: Hi Friends & Gary one of my best friends while in Nam. Doc. Mike "Mack" Dunnagan of A co. is helping me at the church which are all vets. We will try to make it. 904 Cliffside Drive Harker Heights, TX 76548 254-698-7144 1st Assembly of God 502 N 38th Killeen, TX 76543 254-699-1954 fax 254-699-1960 email: faith@n-link.com web pg: www.n-link.com/~faith/Killeen1AG. I can't waite to see all of you again. More later!!! |
Haisley - 04/14/99 17:10:58 | Comments: Just located Cecil Adams. I gave him the web page address so he will probably be on line today. He is pastoring a church in Kileen Texas of all places. Told him about the Gathering and it sounds like he is going to be there. I have a wedding I am tryi g to reschedule so I still don't know if I am going to make it. |
Gary C Stolp - 04/09/99 21:24:11 | Comments: Got to thinking after I signed off the other day that I'd forgot something. I'm always forgetting something. Must be the dreaded CRS disease (Can't remember stuff). Remembered that I'd better add my name and address to the address book so here 'tis: Gary C Stolp, 2401 Sarah Lane, Muskogee, OK, 74403. Phone # is: (918) 687-6240. E-Mail: GSS@oknet1.net If you contact me, please give me some help on identification. 31+ years are awfully hard on my forgetter - not to mention my memory. Well, I hope I have't forgotten anything else too important, but if so you can be sure you'll be hearing from me again a d again and again. Love you man. Doc Stolp |
Gary C Stolp - 04/09/99 03:13:43 | Comments: Guys, I just found this site with the help of LT Chappell. Well, in case you've all forgotten old Doc Stolp - Remember the skinny 125 lb., dripping wet in his BDU's, red headed medic? He ain't got no 26" waist no more. Remember the night we got hit with an M79 grenade launcher and the Viet Namese interpreter and Cpt Lamb was wounded with several others? Remember the hill 97 when we lost the machine gunner and his assistant? OK, well here I am and I miss you all more t an I can tell ya. Wish I got on the net sooner. You can thank my better half, Sherry, for that decision. Anyway, I'd love to see you guys at Taos, but have a previous committment. I'm tore up knowing how many of your mugs I'm going to miss there. I promise I'll be ther with you all in spirit. Lord willing, maybe another year I can drag Sherry with me there. I give LT Chapple discretionary permission to bring you all up to date on me, if any should ask. Is it proper to call him Bob? I still have problems calling officers by their first. He'll always be LT for me. I'm sending him some photos of our return to Chu Lai after being roving battalion all the way to just south of Da Nang. My memory for names is pretty lousy. Please help the LT put some names with these photos when they appear. Thanks in advance. I'd appreciate it immensely if someone had a list of the guys we lost from B Company. Would like for the entire battalion if available. I was also part of Headquarters Co too ya know. I know about the wall, but don't know how to find guys from our unit Would like to do the decent thing in remembering them by name with the respect they all deserve. God bless you every one and for those who read this while it's still posted here. Thanks for being there all those days and nights we were together. |
Dennis - 03/30/99 00:27:23 | Comments: Now I'm REALLY confused, am I still just pretending we were second platoon..... or is it possible that we were? And for the record, we put the fear of whatever platoon we were in those jar heads didn't we? |
John - 03/30/99 00:01:13 | Comments: Santos! Welcome aboard! If you can't make it to this "Gathering", I vote for the "Gathering II" to be in Waikiki! And Bob, we knew which side we were on - we were against the marines, right? |
Bob C. - 03/29/99 23:25:29 | Comments: What is it with you 1st Plt guys anyway? You can't remember what platoon you were in. I guess we were lucky you could remember what side you were on and where you were! Terry, you better give it up. If Mike finds out that you think you were in the 2nd Plt he's liable to change his mind! |
terry - 03/29/99 23:07:58 | Comments: SANTOS! UNBELIEVABLE! That was the first thing I thought when I saw his add in the Locator (the second thing I thought was " Damn, He thinks we were second platoon too!" I propose we determine once and for all what platoon we were in for sure.-Santos an I vote for SECOND PLATOON! (Damn,I hope he can make it to New Mexico!) |
Joe Santos - 03/29/99 13:18:33 | Comments: Bob Chappell & Dennis....thanks for the e-mail message. The pictures bring back a lot of memories....even the orderly room! Dennis, I remember you as being the quiet guy whose best friend was an M-79....and from reading the BB, I gather Bob Cummings has 't changed much in the past 30+ years! Never was a quiet day in his presence, except of course when the SHIT hit the fan in Nam! And guys I mean this literally! We shipped out of Ft Hood together, and held hands all the way to Nam to serve our tour of uty.... Mike Kuhn...the MAN, as a Platoon Leader he was GREAT...though there were quite a few times I had to give him a piece of my mind (under my breath, of course)...it was everytime he instructed me to take out an ambush! I think we (Mike & I), were p etty similar in character...both of us were pretty quiet...concentrated on getting the job done and our !@#$% home alive! It has really MADE MY DAY, hearing from and about you all! I too, have been trying to locate Smitty and Richard Frank...no luck to d te. Have to see how we can work in a trip to NM in May...just made a trip to Dallas, Baltimore and Hawaii four months ago...didn't plan on taking another trip until late October. Guys...it's a damn long trek across this vast Pacific Ocean to get to CONU . Let's make a deal...if you all don't want to trek it all the way to my little island paradise (Guam)...have you ever thought about visiting Hawaii?!....Just thought I'd try! |
Dennis - 03/29/99 13:03:09 | Comments: I would like to see a picture of Atwood in the photo album. Does anybody have one. If LTK does maybe we can get him to send a copy to John. I would like to have a copy before the Gathering. |
Bob C. - 03/28/99 17:55:26 | Comments: OK troops, listen up. Guess who logged in on the 5/46 locator page looking for B Co grunts and LTK ? Joe Santos !!! I e-mailed him back with this URL, informed him that a bunch of guys were looking for him, and invited him to igve us a sitrep on the bu letin board. Unbe*%#$^#&lievable! Check it out on the Americal locator. |
Dennis - 03/27/99 19:23:57 | Comments: As long as your not bringing Lamb, welcome aboard. Any friend of Dan Powell is a a friend of mine. See you in Angel Fire |
John - 03/27/99 17:54:24 | Comments: Rick - hold it against you? Never! You had the hardest time... you had to be with Lamb! Glad to have you on-line. Were you the one that sent a letter back to us before we went over letting us know what to stock up on before we left?? |
Rick Andel - 03/27/99 15:56:20 | Comments: As suggested by Lt. Chappell, it's time for me to break radio silence and give a "sitrep". I'm quite positive that I will make the "Gathering". I remember most of your names, some faces. I have been ease dropping on this bulliten board ever since I ran into LTC last month on the 5/46th locater. I was one of Capt. Lamb's RTO's so I didn't see the boonies as often as you grunts. I hope you wont ake either of the two against me. I went over in the advanced party with LTC and hold the honor of being the first B Co'er to hit the soil of 'Nam. Lt. Chappell would have held that honor but when the bay door of the C130? came down to deboard, in his xcitement he got tangled up in the nylon seat straps. Hell of a mess. They had to cut him out. Seriously, it's been great ease dropping on your conversations and I hope to see you all in New Mexico. |
Dennis - 03/27/99 12:01:25 | Comments: I'm giving you fair warning Lt. Bob, you try to make us burn shit and we're saluting you in the field! |
Bob C - 03/27/99 05:56:34 | Comments: I've got $100 for anyone who wears their 1968 Class A's to The Gathering, and they fit !! No alterations allowed ! |
Bob C. - 03/26/99 20:00:26 | Comments: I'm bringing 1:50,000 topographical maps of our entire AO, from Pinkville to LZ Baldy, with all of the points of interest marked ! Anybody got any trip flares or claymores? |
terry - 03/24/99 16:49:55 | Comments: Things to bring to THE GATHERING: pictures and negatives rosters, orders, ect. (maybe we can find more guys for "THE GATHERING II") No Expectations- "Let it Be" some warm clothes, It can get cold in the mountains in May maybe a little C-4? anybody want to add to the list? |
Jon Hansen - 03/23/99 02:02:27 | Comments: Great Web Site guys and Welcome Home to all. Terry sent me the address after I wrote him about the 12th Annual Fla Viet Nam Vets Reunion and LZ Oceanside in Melbourne Fl in April. Will be a lot of Americal Vets there. The Chapter commander from this area Bob Kapp, was in C/5/46. Hope you guys have a great time in Taos, it sounds like you will. |
Dennis - 03/18/99 14:29:59 | Comments: Nice try John, but as usual you got it wrong. It was closer to 2:30.... Hey I musta been way smarter back then. Today I can't even figure out what that means. |
John - 03/16/99 19:18:56 | Comments: Terry, deleted your first draft and Yeah! I can back up your cockamamie excuse! Dennis told me it stood for Dedicated Unit of Military Brass Army's Superior Service. Honest! It was March 16, 1968 at about 2pm as I recall... You mean he wasn't serious? |
terry - 03/16/99 18:27:12 | Comments: I am completely innocent, I swear! John told me back in '68 that we were SUPPOSED to call Lieutenants "Dumb Ass" instead of "Lieutenant" to confuse the enemy in case any should be listening. Kind of like not saluting in the field in case there were sniper around. Right John? Anyway- no hard feelings I'm sure. You done good Bob- This is going to be one hell of a GATHERING! (HEY WEBMASTER!- delete my first draft and back up my cockamamie excuse will you?) |
Bob C. - 03/14/99 21:04:03 | Comments: Hey Troops. Just back from sunny southern California. I spent Friday in San Diego with Jim Tucker and his family...drinkin', lyin',tellin' war stories, etc. Jim and I drove up to Newport Beach Saturday and spent the day with LTK, drinkin', lyin', tellin war stories, etc. He's got a lot of pictures from RVN, most of them were taken in the field, they're great. He's living large and is very successful at what he is doing, but he's still the same Mike Kuhn I knew 30 years ago. He hasn't changed at all... ot at all. He was really interested when I was telling him about The Gathering website and all of our correspondence over the past few months. He had both newsletters that John had sent him and wanted to know if there were more messages on the bulletin bo rd than was in the newsletter. I explained to him that John had to edit all of Terry's messages complaining about 'that dumbass LTK'. Oh...did I mention that Mike and his wife will be attending The Gathering, I say again, Mike will be in NM in May! Roge that. Mission accomplished. Bravo Three Six out. |
terry - 03/14/99 17:09:10 | Comments: Things to do? Check out the plaza in Santa Fe and the Taos Pueblo, Angel Fire Memorial is a great place for a picnic, golf, fish (probably out our back door),hike up and down steep mountains if you didn't get enough in S.E. Asia. There was enough snow in he high elevations last time we were there in May to ski. (New Mexico, not S.E. Asia) White water rafting . Floating in the pool sucking down Margaritas- I suffer from a disease, not unknown to grunts' that makes it difficult to make a decision until I'm orced to, but I'am up for nearly anything. |
John - 03/14/99 16:32:44 | Comments: Bob C. Good Luck this weekend. I hope your powers of persuasion work well. How about us using a speaker phone in Taos to call the "stay at homes" and tell them what they're missing? |

John - 02/25/99 20:09:30 | Comments: Terry ya know worrying gives you grey hairs. I hope we haven't done that to you. You don't have any grey do you??? |

Dennis - 02/16/99 01:26:45 | Comments: All right.... Who's been smacking John upside the head again? |
John - 02/16/99 01:06:28 | Comments: O.K., how about taking horses out to a hot air ballooning trip while watching white water rafting. (Drinking and smoking all the while...) |
Dennis - 02/15/99 22:43:34 | Comments: Bob your ideas sound OK, but don't drink and raft I was thinking of something easy not too much work.Bring or rent a 1/4" wet suit and the cold water is no problem. |
Bob C. - 02/15/99 20:48:23 | Comments: OK....I'l go first. Activities Dennis? Whitewater rafting strikes me as a lot of work, wet and cold...especially in May in northern NM! Besides beer drinking and lying (telling war stories)I was thinking about some competitive scotch tasting, or maybe attending a cigar appreciation class..now that's what I'm talking about. But whitewater rafting is good too. |
Dennis - 02/15/99 01:15:50 | Comments: Anyone given any thought to activities? how does white water rafting strike you?( you all ought to be able to come up with some good ones with a straight line like that)Or are you guys planing on sitting around eating branflakes or whatever? |
Bob C. - 02/12/99 23:04:54 | Comments: Sorry John......Branflakes ! Is that better for ya ? Or, the old faithful, 'SHORT...96 and a wakeup ! |

Dennis - 02/05/99 00:32:03 | Comments: I think John's been hit in the head once too often. Have you talked to him lately? |

John - 02/03/99 22:30:12 | Comments: Oh Mary, pipe down... |
Mary Migacz - 02/03/99 18:40:20 | Comments: I guess you can recognize by the name who I am, John's sister. Although I have been reading all the correspondence for awhile, nothing ever made me want to write until "Reflections." I have been to The Wall many times and everytime I have been there I t ank God that my brother's name is not there. Thirty years ago I was only nine, but the day they came with the telegram is as vivid as yesterday. Although there are times when I would like to smack my brother upside the head, I want to thank all of you f r making sure that he came home safely and that he is on THIS side of the Wall. |
John - 01/30/99 21:09:19 | Comments: Dennis has found several good sites. One is a painting called "Reflections" and one is a poem. I have combined them - take a look. |
Bob C. - 01/19/99 00:06:23 | Comments: Terry, It looks great to me too. |
Marianne (VD)Carter - 01/18/99 02:00:05 | Comments: Terry - Geronimo Lodge in Taos looks great! |
terry - 01/17/99 20:13:57 | Comments: http://www.newmex.com/sgl/index.htm check out this web site for the Geronimo Lodge in Taos- looks pretty nice, not too far from Angel Fire. Ill forward the email the owner sent me to your email |
terry - 01/03/99 19:14:31 | Comments: Let me tell you what I've found out so far regarding lodging in Angel Fire May 21,22,23. B&B's are pretty much out due to the size of the group. A lodge was next choice - The Laguna Vista Lodge in Eagle's Nest sounds nice- talked with Diana there - they have rooms and cottages for $55. to $65. a night with a historic saloon/restaurant on the roperty. She said with notice they could put together a picnic for us. Eagle's Nest is about 15 miles up the road from Angel Fire- not far in New Mexico. I talked with several rental companies - houses are available but nothing big enough to accomodate us in one. One bedroom/one bath condo's are available from all of them located at the foot of the ski slopes for $85.00 a night. The Angel Fire Resort Hotel (with it's own web page) has hotel roomsw/2 queen beds for $75.00 a night and $85.00 a night condos ( ut no condo complex has 8 1br/1bath in the same complex. The Elkhorn Lodge in Angel fire is 3 yrs old, has 15 hotel rooms and 2 2br suites but no central or meeting rooms. We ate in the restaurant on the ground floor when we were there 3 yrs ago and it wa pretty good - they are going to call me back with a group rate. So far the Angel Fire Resort Hotel or Laguna Vista Lodge look to be the best for our purposes. (it's possible we may turn up some more people between now and then and they have enough room t handle extras. Elkhorn Lodge just called me back and gave us a group rate of $59.oo a night for 8 rooms for three nights. comments? ideas? |

Haisley - 01/02/99 21:04:45 | Comments: John, I am sending you some new pictures to post in the photo album. There is a great one of VD that I took while we were out in the field just a couple days before he was killed. What a tragedy! I'm not sure where we were, about all I remember was that it was a company size opperation and we had a bunch of ARVAN soldier with us. They dropped us on this hill side in this tall elephant grass that was full of leaches where we dug in and stayed there for about a week if my memory serves me correctly. The ther pictures are of the front gate at LZ Ann and out in front of the orderly room at LZ Gator. Looking forward to "The Gathering" hope everyone has a great New Year. |
John - 12/25/98 03:38:01 | Comments: Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to everyone. Looking forward to New Mexico. |

Darcy Haisley - 12/20/98 04:15:13 | Comments: Just got on line so I thought better post my e-mail address it's (dhaisley@intergityol.com) Some corrections concerning my address and phone number Darcy & Suzie Haisley 4515 Forest Drive Everett Wash. 98203, Phone Residence (425)259-5902 Church (425)252- 188. I saw him shortly after I got home but have'nt been in contact with him in 30 ears. A couple of other guys I would like to made contact with are Alex McConnel, A medic in our platoon named Adams(he was the religious guy)Greg Ortiz, Glenn Schuck, George Bennis (he worked supply and if I remember right was from Galviston Texas). |

Marianne (VD) Carter - 12/16/98 18:55:12 | Comments: May 21,22, and 23 is okay with me. Thanks |
Bob - 12/15/98 15:51:29 | Comments: You guys crack me up ! |
Dennis - 12/15/98 12:58:58 | Comments: This is too many changes for me to deal with at once. I'll go along with the date change but can't we go on pretending we were 2nd plt for a little while longer? |
Bob - 12/15/98 05:46:25 | Comments: May 21,22,23 works for me. |
John - 12/15/98 03:19:24 | Comments: Guys, the weekend before Memorial Day is OK with me. How about we actually schedule the "Gathering" for May 21,22,23 Fri, Sat & Sun? If anyone wants to come earlier or stay longer it's up to them. What's everybody out there say? Let's vote on it! (P.S. - Bob, I always knew it was the 1st platoon, I was just humoring Terry...) |
Bob - 12/15/98 03:03:01 | Comments: OK troops, I don't know how to break this to you...you were in the 1st platoon, NOT the 2nd !! From day one, when I was reading your e-mails,and you were refering to Mike Kuhn as the Plt Ldr, I knew it was the 2nd Plt. Jim Tucker was the 2nd Plt Ldr. Whe I spoke to Mike, I asked him and he confirmed it. I have finally found Jim Tucker and he also confirmed it ! If Mike was yor Plt Ldr,you were in the 1st Plt. It's not surprising that our memories are semi-shot after 30 years. Also, Mike Kuhn's home a dress: 1422 High Bluff Dr.,Newport Beach CA, 92660. Jim Tucker is going to assist me in persuading Mike to attend The Gathering. |
terry - 12/15/98 02:16:07 | Comments: Gave up on the realtor in Angel Fire, They are apparently busy booking ski season so I started calling lodges. Found that weekend preceeding Memorial Day is busy busy busy. Haven't checked but assume air travel will be as well. How do you all feel about w ekend before that? May 21,22,23? As of now we are looking at 8 rooms, which puts us out of the Bed & Breakfast league. So far room rates at that time of year seem to be in the $50. to $80. per night range. Only checked 3 places so far , 2 in Eagle's Nest (close by) and one in Angel F re. Is three nights ok with everybody? Too much? Too little? I guess we need to to come to a consensus so we can start booking rooms and flights. I'm coming by road and plan on being in the Rockies for a couple of weeks and am pretty flexable (for a guy my age). I can't say enough about the beauty and neat places to go in this general area (Santa Fe alone deserves a day or two) so If you have the time to spend, plan on an extra couple of days before or after we get together. I will try to come up with a recomendation on a place to stay and I guess we can make our own reservations. I am still actively trying to find people so we may end up with a few more ( anybody remember Rod's first name middle initial or home? Wonder if Santos is still on Guam? Darcy s looking for Richard Frank. Haven't been able to locate him as Ca. is full of R. Franks and we don't have his initial. Who else- Smitty is going to be a tough one. Let me know what you think about the dates etc. I have to put in for leave in the next cou le of weeks in order to be sure of getting off. terry |

Bob - 12/04/98 21:33:21 | Comments: I remember it well. I was laying in a hammock at the top of the hill when the slick went down. The main rotor went WHOOSHING over the hill, I thought it was going to take my head off. One of the gunners ended up in a tree!! One of the pilots walked int B Co orderly room a couple of months later looking for some of the gear that we,uhh, requisitioned off of the slick. I'd love to talk to him and shmooz him into coming. Oh yeah, I'm pretty sure that I've found Jim Tucker, the last Plt Ldr to be heard fr m. I've got his home address, but no phone#. Will keep everyone posted. |
terry - 12/04/98 20:33:30 | Comments: who remembers that LZ they blasted off the end of a ridgeline NW of Chu Lai and dropped us on a bunch of very angry little people? How about the chopper that was hanging over the edge after three days of no resupply, kicking machinegun barrels, ammo and w ter when it took fire, flipped over and rolled down the hill? I'am in touch with the pilot that survived the crash and was our guest for a couple of days. Bob, you remember Mr. Del Sobral from 198th Aviation. I gave him our web address and am trying to onvince him to GATHER as an honored, honarary member. Say some nice things and maybe he will join the festivities. |
Bob Chappell - 12/04/98 01:04:20 | Comments: OP Plan? I got an OP Plan for ya! Southwest Airlines has the cheapest fares to Albuquerque. Rent a car and take I-25N thru Santa FE(it's a beautiful drive)to Taos. Angel Fire is about 20 miles ffrom there. Terry, if you're riding your bike from Forida... 'll order your kidney transplant and have the Dustoff circling overhead! |
Dennis - 12/03/98 13:21:12 | Comments: Let's see my choices are flapping my arms or 2000 miles in an old school bus that gets about 7 mpg, probably with a top speed of say 45 mph? Sounds like 6 days on the road to me (assuming we drive straight through )each way I think I'll call a travel agent. Dates sound fine to me. |
DeMott - 12/03/98 00:43:47 | Comments: Looking at my calendar- May 28, 29, 30th? 3 days enough? Haven't heard back from the Angel Fire Broker except a message that she was working on it and would get back to me. I'll call her again this week. I'll post whatever I find out re: prices, ect. Eas Coast- You would do better flapping your arms real fast than waiting for me to send plane tickets! I'am probably going by motorcycle but will be willing to take my '75 Bluebird school bus if anybody wants to cover the 7 mpg from Florida. Dennis? |
Terry DeMott - 12/03/98 00:22:33 | Comments: Way to go John & Marsha! Terrific Page! I feel so UPTOWN! Is that an OD background you LIFER? Time to talk of many things- dates , length of stay, the rumor I was flying you guys-, how are we going to recognise each other- (I haven't changed but you guys are pretty old now) WHAT WE NEED IS AN OP PLAN! How ' bout it LT? |
Dennis - 12/01/98 13:21:18 | Comments: Re Date, only date not good for me is June 8. I know , I know, you all had your hearts set on that date. I have heard May mentioned and it sounds good to me. |
Marianne (VD) Carter - 11/30/98 05:09:55 | Comments: John A very impressive web page! Count me in as I plan to be there! It may be a good idea to start thinking about specfic date in late spring. Thanks |
John - 11/28/98 18:46:04 | Comments: Guys, I added a photo page. Unfortunately I only have 1 picture (thanks again Dennis). If you have any pictures you'd like me to post, send them to me via e-mail or snail mail. I will send back any pictures I receive. |
John - 11/27/98 04:48:32 | Comments: If you guys want me to post any pictures just e-mail them to me and I'll start a "photo page". If you want to mail me the photo I'll scan it and I promise (honest!) to send it back. |

Dennis - 11/26/98 16:17:21 | Comments: I am looking forward to seeing you all again. I am impressed with John's skills in developing this web site. Terry has picked a great location and I am pleased that he offered to charter a plane for the East Coast Grunts. |
